Bankruptcy May Rewrite Movie’s Unhappy Ending
According to an article in TBO, the movie production company Six Wives LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in an effort to stop its creditors from selling the film “”The Six Wives of Henry Lefay” against their wishes. The film has been released overseas; but not in the United States.
The article said:
“Trouble brewed when the film’s lender, Aramid Entertainment Fund, a Cayman Islands-based group, declared the film in “non-monetary default” and terminated its right to overseas distribution. Aramid Entertainment is owed about $4.5 million. Overall the film’s production cost about $12 million, McIntyre said.”
Because Aramid declared the film in “non-monetary default” the production company has been unable to make any money from the film’s release in Asia and Europe. Six Wives LLC hopes the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing will prevent the lender from selling the film and that the bankruptcy court will allow it to release the film in the United States.
